Our origin story
Velia was born from a simple yet powerful idea: that health technology should be both deeply intelligent and beautifully unobtrusive. Founded in 2018 as a spin-out from EPFL in Switzerland, our team of scientists and engineers came together with a shared vision—to miniaturize medical-grade sensing technology and make it seamlessly wearable. And what they created was truly remarkable.
What began as a breakthrough in optical biosensing evolved into something more: a commitment to helping people live longer, healthier lives without the noise of constant notifications or bulky devices. We saw an opportunity to reimagine the wearable experience—not as a gadget, but as a quiet, intelligent companion that works in the background, only stepping in when it truly matters.
With the launch of the Velia Ring, we’ve brought that vision to life. It’s the culmination of years of research, design, and refinement, delivering powerful health insights in a form that’s as elegant as it is effortless.
At Velia, we’re not just building wearables. We’re building the future of longevity. One quiet, meaningful moment at a time.

Antonino Caizzone, PhD
Chief Engineering & Ops
Award-winning scientist and EPFL graduate, Antonino co-founded Senbiosys to miniaturize medical-grade sensors. With over 60 scientific publications, his work bridges cutting-edge research and everyday health monitoring through the Velia Smart Ring.

Assim Boukhayma, PhD
Chief Science & Tech
Swiss engineer and expert in photonic sensor design, Assim co-founded Senbiosys after earning his PhD from EPFL. He led the development of ultra-miniaturized PPG sensors that power the Velia Smart Ring, bringing medical-grade accuracy to wearable tech.
Think Simple
What if your health could speak to you—without making a sound? Not through alerts. Not through alarms. But through presence. Quiet. Constant. Precise.
We live in an age of hyper-connectivity. And yet—most wearables disconnect us from the one thing that truly matters : our own bodies. Too bulky. Too visible. Too noisy.
At Velia, we chose not to patch the problem. We rebuilt everything to answer one question : how simple can health feel — when technology disappears?
So we built the world’s smallest optical sensor. A breakthrough in miniaturization and accuracy. Engineered with Swiss precision. Crafted not for show, but for meaning.
Velia is not worn. It’s embraced. Like a vow—subtle, personal, enduring.
As discreet as jewelry. As intelligent as science.
Because the future of health is no longer on your wrist. It’s on your finger.
And it begins with a promise—to yourself.
