The story

Our founders, Nino and Assim, both share a PhD in advanced medical sensors and a passion for innovation. It's no wonder they hit it off from the moment they met. Given their pioneering and entrepreneurial spirit, it’s also no wonder that this encounter led, after many years of research, to a truly unique innovation in the healthcare world: a miniaturized advanced PPG sensor. With over 60 international publications and almost 1000 scientific citations, they have been leaders in the field of healthcare sensors, working tirelessly to create innovative solutions for professionals with the company they co-founded, Senbiosys. But their vision extends far beyond the realm of healthcare professionals.

Nino and Assim have set out to bring the benefits of this little miracle of miniaturization to a wider audience. They believe that health and wellness should be accessible and affordable to all, and with the VELIA ring, they’re making that a reality. A reality where people can have better control over their health, but also about their overall happiness and balance. A reality where there is beauty to be found in new possibilities, and everyone is invited to shape their own lives with audacity. Because anything is possible, after all.

The double challenge

Coming up with the VELIA ring wasn’t just about sensors. Another major challenge lay in the battery: as we shrunk the size from a watch to a smart ring, we needed to find ways to enhance the energy density of these smaller batteries. We had to reinvent and innovate from scratch, just like when NASA had to create new materials to reach the moon. Our partnership with a leader in battery solutions resulted in a battery that's truly one of a kind. It incorporates new, innovative materials, especially for the metals, that are unique to VELIA.
